Peeling Back the Labels: Uncovering What's Hidden and Cultivating Inclusive Environments
Course Description: This session focuses on LGBTQ+ identity as a case study for examining inclusionary practices for classrooms and school communities.
Facilitator: Shane Jensen
Bio: Shane Jensen (he/him) is the Music Specialist for Baltimore County Public Schools. He holds degrees in Music Education from Concordia College and Towson University along with Post Graduate work in School Improvement and Leadership and a graduate certificate in Social and Emotional Learning. Currently, Shane is working on his Ed.D. in Leadership through American College of Education. He has served on the music faculty at Morgan State University and Lincoln University. He is a member of NAfME and continues to be an active music and educational clinician throughout Maryland. In 2006, he was a Fulbright-Hays scholar recipient where he traveled across China to promote and implement the history of China into American curriculum. He has presented at various conferences, universities, and professional development and leadership sessions specifically focusing on Inclusive Practices, Gender Identity, LGBTQ+ Topics, and Making Meaningful Connections.
