March 2021 #Alysia Visits
Maryland Music Education Association Conference
The MMEA Annual Inservice Conference promised and delivered “an intensive conference with all the components of the in-person event.” The sessions and keynote presentations were led by local and national experts that infused their passion into each moment. And today, MMEA announced that you can access the session archives for a nominal fee.
I was thrilled to present about Racial Justice on the Concert Stage beside Dr. Eugene Rogers. I also learned so much from Dr. Liz Palmer’s DEI-focused session and Towson University’s Diana Saez’s presentation about Latin choral music across the African Diaspora. You can still catch these presentations and many others!
UMBC Arts Integration Conference
Congratulations to MC3 Curriculum Director, Kim Brown! Brown led a terrific Arts Integration presentation at the UMBC AI Conference on synthesizing texts through collage.
See below for the poem that we explored in the session with ...Collage 1 is Stanza 1 by Kim Brown and Collage 2 is Stanza 2 by Alysia Lee.
"It Seems I Test People" by James Berry
My skin sun-mixed like basic earth
my voice having tones of thunder
my laughter working all of me as I laugh
my walk motioning strong swings
it seems I test people
Always awaiting a move
waiting always to recreate my view
my eyes packed with hellos behind them
my arrival bringing departures
it seems I test people.
